Here’s how to say goodbye to dry skin

Here's how to say goodbye to dry skin

You probably recognize it: a chapped, red and flaky skin that feels tight. These, unfortunately, are the signs of a dry skin. Dry skin is often caused by harmful external influences. Now that winter has arrived, you think mainly of dry air and inclement winds (in addition to UV radiation and pollution) causing your skin to dry out faster than normal.

Therefore, it is important to take extra good care of your skin in the winter by using a fine face cream that suits your skin type.

How does this work?

A good face cream forms a natural barrier that reduces the penetration of harmful external influences into the skin. In addition, less moisture evaporates from the skin, reducing moisture loss. With dry skin, moisture evaporates from the skin outwards and harmful influences pass through the skin inward due to a reduced barrier (see image above: “dry skin” link). A good face cream contains caring and moisturizing ingredients that strengthen the natural skin barrier (see image above: right side). Make sure you choose a cream that also contains antioxidants that are not immediately absorbed by the skin. Vitamin E and C, for example, are good for the skin but are absorbed immediately and thus do not contribute to the natural barrier you would like to promote in winter.

So what ingredient should a cream for winter contain?

Niacinamide! Niacinamide is an excellent antioxidant that hydrates the skin and strengthens the skin barrier. Read more about this vitamin in our blog “Niacinamide the all-rounder.” In addition to using an appropriate day and night cream, we have listed some additional tips for getting through the winter.

Tips:

  • Ensure proper humidity in your home. Under 45% is on the low side. Promote this by using a humidifier.
  • Do not shower too hot and too long, this dries out the skin. After this, condition your skin to nourish and moisturize it right away. Don’t forget about the rest of your body in the process.
  • Skin oil: oil helps your skin retain moisture by strengthening the skin barrier.
  • Protect your skin in cold and inclement weather. Especially your face, lips and hands.
  • Exfoliate: an exfoliant gently removes dead skin cells and flakes without damaging the skin.
